love the poster! i like to see posters which use text as an image in a way, its the aesthetic and the message all in one, which i suppose really makes a really great design, when you can say everything you want to say about something in this way.

That Michael Johnson. He's a bit good, no?

His book Problem Solved is a corker too...

That people in design think that there is not much difference between advertising and design is half the reason that so much advertising is lack lustre and inefficient these days.

The problem is that Advertising and design are separated by a common language. we use the same words but mean the exact opposite when we use them.

Ben

Can you elaborate on that?

Richard - there's a jolly good discussion to be had here (as topical as Dalton Maag http://acejet170.typepad.com/foundthings/2006/11/bruno_maag_at_t.html#comments I think). You MUST elaborate.

Richard

It's kind of connected, but is it just me or do almost all books on advertising (Truth, Lies and Advertising for example), while excellent content-wise, come with hideously designed covers?

Isn't it the truth here that we're really talking about the sales pitch?

It might make sense for a designer to argue that there's not much difference between advertising and design, because advertising means bigger bucks*. But when did you ever here an ad man say that there's not much difference between design and advertising? Not very often, I'll wager.

*That reminds me of Garrison Keillor's 'Iowans, Chickens and Others':-
Q. "What did the doe say when she came out of the woods?"
A. "Boy, I'll never do that again for two bucks".
